Meet Coconut Octopus (Amphioctopus marginatus)
Wrapping up two incredible summer art events, and my heart is completely full. 🌊
I started Blue Current Collective to shine a light on our oceans and the fragile, fascinating life within them. Making art sustains me, and connecting with so many of you who care just as deeply about marine conservation means everything.
Fun behind-the-scenes fact: I was so excited prepping this line of enameled sea creature earrings that I literally burned out my kiln. Thanks to your incredible support, we nearly sold out of inventory—which officially paid for the replacement kiln! Because giving back is central to this work, 10% of all sales goes directly to supporting ocean health and research.
The runaway favorite of the summer? The Octopus.
Since you love these clever creatures as much as I do, meet the Coconut Octopus (Amphioctopus marginatus):
* One of the few invertebrates known to use tools.
* It searches the ocean floor for discarded coconut halves or clam shells.
* It stacks them, carries them underneath its body, and snaps them together into a mobile fortress when danger nears.
