I think about Nudibrandts and they make me smile!

As may now be apparent from my portfolio of fine art collectable offerings, I see much of the world is a micro smorgasbord simply awaiting their turn for me to curate a collectable version their transfixing beauty. Nudibrandts often fill my kiln and space on my work table. Keeping my mind and hands busy with creating new ways to express through clay and color the riot of life deep under the sea. It is believed that there are about 3,000 species of nudibranchs know to us humans. This means I will likely never run out of new squiggly, florescent, ethereal figures to create. Nudibandts are part of the Blue Current Collective line of fine art collectables. For each purchase 10% of sales is donated to local and international research dedicated to improving ocean health. Here are a few of our favorite quotes that we believe speaks to the current plight of the planets oceans.

The marine biologist and author Rachel Carson eloquently captured this exact sentiment in her seminal book The Sea Around Us:

"It is a curious situation that the sea, from which life first arose, should now be threatened by the activities of one form of that life. But the sea, though changed in a sinister way, will continue to exist; the threat is rather to life itself."

For a broader perspective on the ocean as the source of our health and the urgency of protecting it, consider these additional reflections:

  • Dr. Sylvia Earle: "Health to the ocean means health for us." She also famously noted: "Everyone, everywhere is inextricably connected to and utterly dependent upon the existence of the sea."

  • Jacques Yves Cousteau: "The sea, the great unifier, is man's only hope. Now, as never before, the old phrase has a literal meaning: we are all in the same boat."
